Just a general question, does anybody use the Eclipse tool for messing around with their DXL ?
All these young things at my work rave about Eclipse, but to me it just seems like a very slow editor :-P
Obviously I am missing the point somewhere, so I am planning to drag myself into the 2000's and have a play with the thing. To begin with I just want to use Eclipse as an editor while I write DXL, then develop some plug ins to do things like error checking.
Anyone have a wish list of things they would like to have implemented? I'm not saying I am skilled enough to implement it myself, but am looking for some inspiration of what might be possible.
Thanks
Andrew.

Crimson Editor here. And there was a thread on the old forum about setting up a macro in it to do DXL error checking with checkDXL but I didn't get it to work.

Yep, I'm using crimson right now, and very good it is too, I do remeber that post, will check it out again. Currently I'm just looking for a good project to use while finally teaching myself some Java.

Andrew,
I started poking around Eclipse while learning Django and while I agree with you with how slow it can be, I believe its feature set to be worth it. It has so much built-in to it, and is extensible.
I did a search a few months back and saw a company selling an Eclipse integration with DOORS. I have no idea what this means, but they were able to get a module browser into Eclipse.
I like Crimson but don't know where to even get started in order to use Eclipse. And I don't currently have the time to research it.

Yep, I saw that one too Kevin: http://www.embeddedplus.com/EmbPlusDoorKeeperEclipse.php
Looks very comprehensive, allows browsing of Modules in an eclipse environment, linking of DOORS objects to code devloped in the eclipse environment, and also seems to allow you to write Java code that directly acts upon the DOORS repository (the death of DXL, hope not ???). Not a free tool though.
Well, looks like I had better pull my socks up and dig into this Java thing more. I'm at 'Hello World" right now, so it could be a long trip. Will post back here if it aver comes to anything useable.

Looks like this came out Nov-09. Looks very good. It improves things. But there are still a few things I would like to see:
1) Integrated reference manual with full argument lists for the inbuilt functions.
2) Autocomplete for user generated functions.
3) debugging.

Thanks for the feedback. You should have autocomplete for user-defined functions in the same project - if this isn't working, post something on the dxleditor forum and we'll take a look. As for debugging, stay tuned...we may have good news coming.

Thanks Thomas,
Agreed, I do get autocomplete for my own functions.
If you can provide live step in, out, over style debugging and (perhaps - hopefully) live statusing of variables that would be awesome, I needed it for years.
